Same Sex Indian Wedding And Their Love Story

Love has no gender, religion, nor race . This is true with the story of Shannon and Seema who got married last June of 2013 at the SmogShoppe in L.A. with India’s traditional wedding ceremony complete with rituals like hand and feet painting, India’s folk songs, varmala, and other important North Indian wedding rituals. While Seema wore a red and white sari-inspired wedding gown with a palki which carried her at the ceremony, Shannon went with the traditional off shoulder white gown with her mother walking her down the aisle. Both wore a tikka on their foreheads. Their guests include family members and close friends, all of whom have fully supported their relationship. Their fusion marriage was a manifestation of the couple’s different yet united traditions.

Their love story began when Shannon met Seema in a physical training program where Shannon was teaching. It was love at first sight for Shannon promising herself she would someday marry Seema. But not until the recent ruling by the court of California that made same-sex marriages legal, did they make their relationship ‘official’. Six years after their first meeting, they exchanged their marriage vows.

Besides their family and friends, the beautiful couple also received an overwhelming support and greetings from all over the world. They are thankful that their story have inspired others with the same relationship issues. Although each couple has a different religion and contrasting culture, they are one in love and commitment.
